8th Grade English
Description: 8th Grade English closely follows 8th Grade Social Studies in the study of post Revolutionary War events. All of the areas studied follow the guidelines of the Vermont State Standards and the Grade Level Expectations set for their grade level. They will continue to work with the elements of literature, such as setting, character, plot, and theme from a variety of genres. Grammatical applications will include the expectation that students pay closer attention to editing skills while reviewing grammar basics and learning new principles. Vocabulary and spelling will be reading based, though students will be encouraged to maintain a personal spelling list of commonly misspelled words for their own improvement. Writing will build on Vermont Portfolio expectations for multiple drafts of revised writing. In this class we will also emphasize the use of technology though various lessons.
