Test Corrections

Test corrections allow you to earn back up to one half of the points you missed. In order to earn the maximum amount of credit, you must do the following thins for each question.

  • Identify in writing what your mistakes are.

This may include a lack of understanding of the question, operational error, faulty solving method, or something else. “I was clueless” is not an acceptable answer. Your errors need to be explained.

  • Indicate in writing how to solve the problem.

Explain in a few words the process you will use to solve the problem.

  • Work out the problem showing step-by-step detail, arriving at the correct solution.

Your solution must be correct in every way. (Fractions reduced, like terms combined, radicals rationalized, etc.)

  • No credit is given for an incorrect solution.

  • Label each question and indicate your score out of the possible points for each question. (i.e. 2/3 points earned)

Your corrections must be typed. In no instance will a student be given points that would bring their test grade over a score of 99.

Research aids you may use to determine the correct solution include your text, other students, teachers, parents, the Internet, or any other source you choose. You may not receive help from a teacher on the day the corrections are due.

Work will be neat, clearly labeled, and stapled to the front of your test.

There are no exceptions to the due date (typically one week from when tests are handed back). Papers will be handed in at the beginning of class on the due date. If you are absent from school on the due date, the paper must be handed in before first period on your next school day. Do not wait until the next class, as your work will not be accepted.

Summary

  1. Neat, clear work stapled to the front of the test or quiz.
  2. Explanation of what the errors were.
  3. A detailed solution leading to the correct solution.
  4. Work completed on time.
  5. You can only ask Miss Ricci questions on no more than 3 problems. The goal of this exercise is for you to learn how to solve the problem and do the appropriate work/research.

Sample Test Corrections:

Question 1. Points Earned: 1/3. I got a point taken of on this problem because I got confused with r. I thought that it stood for rate and not the ideal gas constant. All of the abbreviations are good because they are short one letter abbreviations, but you need to be careful with them because it could be confusing.

Question 5. Points Earned: ½. In this problem I did not explain the answer fully enough and I used the wrong equation to solve the problem. The correct equation you would need to this problem sufficiently would be A x 1 +r to the nth power = T. A equals the original amount you started with, r stands for the interest rate, n equals the number of years that you are adding interest, and T equals your total amount with interest. For this problem the equation should look like this: 1000 x 1.10 to the 50th power = 117390.8529.

Question 6. Points Earned: ½. You need to divide the populations not subtract to find how many times larger the population is. You subtract the exponents first, 10 the 9th minus 10 to the 7th equals 10 to the 2nd. Then you divide the whole numbers 1.215/6.513 = .18654997. Take that number and multiply by 10 to the 2nd and you get 18.654997.
