Course Objective

Information technology permeates our society and our entire educational system.  Because all students will use technology as a tool for managing information, all students need a vast repertoire of skills that will foster their educational, career, and personal needs.  The objective of this course is to build a sound understanding of the nature and operation of information technology so students are proficient with their use of computers.  We will be working with the Office 2003 suite.

Grading Outline

25% = Keyboarding Technique and Keyboarding Speed and Accuracy

50% = In-Class Assignments and Evening Learning Opportunities (ELO’s)

25% = Quizzes, Projects, and Production Tests

Workplace Responsibility Assessment Criteria (VT Standard 3.14):

  • Late Work
  • Missing Work
  • Tardies
  • Being Prepared

All assignments will be due when stated.  Late assignments will be handled as follows:

  • 10% deducted each day it is overdue.  An extension in time is possible.  You are strongly encouraged to talk with me before an assignment is due, if you foresee a problem or conflict.
  • Excused absences will have 2 days for each day missed to get work completed and turned in.
